About Point Break

Surfs UP! really does say it all!

We are a new surf school in Tamarindo but we are not new to the surfing industry.
All our Instructors are locals who grew up surfing before they could walk, coming from #1 ranked surf schools. Its true when they say friends are family you choose for yourself.

Point Break Surf has one awesome FAMILY!

William Ortega (GM & Head instructor) is a local Costa Rican who joined our family when we first opened our doors. William moved to Tamarindo in the 90’s.

His local knowledge and surf expertise has already helped Point Break become the amazing surf school that it is today.

William is earning a reputation of having amazing patience with surf students young and old. Living in the Tamarindo area he knows all the best places and restaurants in town. Just ask him!
Brayan Valerin (advanced instructor) is another local Costa Rican family member who has joined our team from a #1 ranked surf school.

Brayan is an avid surfer and if he is not teaching you’ll find him surfing at some of his favorite surf spots. Brayan has a great sense of humor and a natural ability to teach.
Carlos Espinoza (assistant instructor) a local Costa Rican is our newest addition to the family. He is a local surfer and is also studying at university.

Carlos keeps us laughing and makes the best sandwiches! He is a natural in the water teaching and takes pride watching his students progress.

Ryley, Livia, and Kalia (Co-Owners and sisters to the above brothers they never had) are from Barrie, Ontario Canada.

They were moved down to Costa Rica by their really mean mom who hated Canadian winters, wanted her daughters to have an amazing experience and live PURA VIDA!

In Canada they were Competitive CPA Cheerleaders and gymnast athletes earning National titles!

Now it seems they have traded in their Bows for Boards. Ryley and Kalia have taken up surfing and are getting better daily. Livia has taken to the local tradition of creating pottery and has become an avid boogie boarder.
